The Young Architects' Forum is an informal group of Toledo area architects and associates who meet monthly in local restaurants to discuss the profession as it applies to them. Many cities have YAF programs, which involve registered architects who have been licensed for five years or less. The Toledo YAF also includes architectural designers who have not yet registered, and those who are fulfilling their IDP requirements. Our key goal is to remain an accessible and informal forum for discussion of architectural issues. We recognize the value of the AIA, and many of our members are AIA associates or members. We also recognize the need for young professionals to meet each other and discuss such items as internships, the architectural registration exam, CAD programs, and other aspects of the transition from "student" to "architect". In addition to our monthly meetings, we also participate in community events (such as CanStruxt, the Old West End festival, and the Epilepsy Center's miniature golf tournament), and take architectural tours (such as of Chicago, Cranbrook, or local structures of importance). Many YAF members take interest in education and development of students considering architecture by serving as critics at Bowling Green State University's architectural school and as advisors in AIA Toledo's annual High School Design Competition. Membership is free, and one need only show up to one of our meetings or events to participate. We also send out periodic emails with information on our events to anyone interested. Our meetings tend to fall on the third Tuesday of the month (AIA Toledo meetings tend to fall on the second Tuesday of the month). |

Internship Development ProgramNCARB's Internship Development Program (IDP) is a required part of Ohio's and Michigan's licensing process. It can be a daunting process, and answers to questions one may have aren't always apparent. AIA Toledo has developed a
network of IDP mentors to meet and advise interns on their professional
development. To find a mentor within the Toledo Area, please contact the
IDP coordinator, |
