AND THE WINNERS ARE ...

This year we are celebrating our twenty-second year in awarding architectural design excellence. AIA Toledo has expanded the awards program in 2017.  The Design Awards categories have been expanded to recognize design excellence in the areas of Architecture, Interior Design, Small Projects and Preservation. There were seventeen (17) project entries received for this year’s Design Awards Program representing nine (9) NW Ohio architectural firms/architects.  AIA Toledo also received four (4) 25 Year project entries.  All entries were reviewed on March 27, 2017 in Detroit, Michigan by an independent jury of architects where five (5) entries were selected to receive an Honor Award and one (1) entry was selected to receive the 25 Year Award.  Awards were presented at the 2017 AIA Toledo Honors Celebration held at The Blarney Event Center in Downtown Toledo on Friday, April 21, 2017.

  • Images In Time - Approximately 80,000 images are now available through Images In Time , the largest on-line searchable collection of photographs in Northwest Ohio through the Toledo Lucas County Public Library.  The pictures range from the 1870s to present day, with the bulk taken between 1880 and World War II.  The majority of the photographs depict scenes in the city of Toledo , although much of Northwestern Ohio and Southeastern Michigan are represented. Photographs depict the downtown area, with a large number of Toledo area industries (Jeep, Toledo Scale, Libbey Glass, Owens-Illinois, Libby-Owens-Ford, etc.), schools, hospitals, and parks represented as well.  Images In Time provides visitors to the web site the opportunity to search the database by house address or street name, or by a subject or keyword.

Design a T-Shirt Contest

Annual AIA Toledo 8th Grade “DESIGN A T-SHIRT” Competition

In the spirit of community outreach and engaging the future generation of Toledo Architects, AIA Toledo held its First Annual Design a T-Shirt Contest during our 2009 Celebration of Architecture Week.  The contest was announced to area 8th Grade art classes.  Their objective?  Create a monochromatic design that represents their interpretation of the word: ARCHITECTURE.    The 3 winning designs came from teacher Nancy Dyer’s art class at McCord Junior High School in Sylvania.  The First Place Artist was Alyssa Kruger who received $100 as well as a Pizza party and T-shirts printed with her winning design for everyone in their Art Class!  The Second Place Artist, Natasha Herzig, was awarded $75 and Third Place winner Alexis Bielski received $50.

AIA Toledo received a total of 36 submissions from 6 area middle schools.  The winning designs were chosen by the AIA Toledo Executive Committee.  In addition to the prizes listed above, all three winning designs were exhibited at the Toledo Lucas County Public Library Gallery from  April 7, 2009 through April 14, 2009.
