AIA TOLEDO DESIGN AWARDS

The AIA Toledo Design Awards Program was established to recognize design excellence for private and public projects of quality, and honor works of distinction located in Northwest Ohio. The awards stand as an affirmation of the diversity and quality of our contemporary regional architecture. The AIA Toledo Design Awards Program is founded on the belief that excellence knows neither region nor style, and is not a function of budget, project size, or building type.

This year we are celebrating our thirteenth year in recognizing and awarding architectural design excellence. There were thirteen (13) project entries received for this year's Design Awards Program representing seven (7) NW Ohio architectural firms/architects. The entries were reviewed on October 17, 2008 in Buffalo, NY where two (2) entries were selected to receive Honor Awards and one (1) entry was selected to receive the Citation Award by this year's Design Award Jury. Awards were presented at the 2008 AIA Toledo Design Awards Gala held at the Toledo Country Club on Saturday, November 15, 2008.

The Design Award Jury differs each year and is composed of a well respected group of architects practicing outside of the state of Ohio. This Jury is charged with performing a critical evaluation of the project submissions. This evaluation considers the goals, challenges and design influences inherent to each project and the sensitivity with which the final design solution addresses these factors. Each project is judged on its own merits; not in competition with one another. The projects which have been selected to receive the Citation Award have been deemed by the Jury as having achieved a high level of design excellence. Those projects which have been given the distinction of the Honor Award are recognized as having demonstrated exemplary design sensitivity.
